4 step process double diamond concept making your project real through diverging and converging thinking
Step 1 Discover
Initial ideas or inspiration of users’ needs
With every project, step 1 starts with a discovery stage (diverging), where we get to know each other and conduct in-depth research. Identify the business problems, their objectives, and what makes your brand unique. I also study your specific market, analyze your direct and indirect competition, and figure out users’ needs and pain points through user experience research methods.
Deliverables can include
surveys
tech research
competitive analysis
interviews & insights
user research/ testing
contextual inquiry
design research
insight gathering
Step 2 Define
Interpretation & alignment of findings to project objectives
In order to make sense of findings from the previous stage, we need to synthesise. Step 2 starts with defining our research (converging) it allows ideas to be narrowed into a clear definition of the problem. This process is a highly collaborative team practice that requires complete understanding and integration between the team members. Working on setting up our goals, determining the product features, and estimating the scope of work will provide an optimal business impact.
Deliverables can include
affinity mapping
assumptions
experience mapping
How might we’s
user flow
information architecture
user journey
persona creation
Step 3 Develop
Concept design, iterations, and refinement through user testing
We are finally ready to move on to the design, Step 3 (diverging). Leveraging research data and project objectives, I present key findings and detailed accounts of situations in which users will interact with your product, service, or environment over a period of time. This helps while I facilitate a design workshop with stakeholders and collaboratively we build the most comforting, engaging, and desirable experience for users, helping them achieve their goals as quickly as possible, which are intuitive.
Deliverables can include
design workshop
interactive prototyping
sketching
visual management
wireframing
user testing
style guides
iterating
Step 4 Deliver
Process & outcome, deliverables, finalised & implementation
Depending on the project, with Step 4 (converging) the end of the design process has reached either handover to developers for their coding wizardry, or the design is in a constantly evolving and improving process, therefore never completely done. Once the first product is released and people are using it, we get a great opportunity to review its performance through analytics, aggregate feedback, and improve based on user needs and business goals. Making your product even more streamlined.
Deliverables can include
final testing
next steps
approval
feedback
development
future work
evaluation
